Davao Food Exploration| Blog#5

The hometown of our President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao is dubbed as one of the safest places here in the Philippines. It is also known for the foods and delicacies it offers especially the Durian. Even though it has a strong odor(haha) Im still craving for it.

Davao is also knon for its museums, me as a history lover, came to visit the two museums in thr city. The Davao Museum and the Davao Museum of History and Ethnography.

Along the way of finding a restaurant to eat, I was craving for a durian and I stumbled upon a street vendor selling durian fruits. I immediately bought two of it and it was very delicious, don’t forget to try this when you visit Davao.

Like what I always do everytime I travel, I ask the people, locals or tourists alike, where can I eat the most delicious food and famous in the place, after I questioned many people they led me here in Davao’s Famous, located at Ramon Magsaysay Ave.

It took me 15 minutes befofe I got a seat inside the restaurant because the place was full of people. I ordered of course their best seller, the chicken inasal paired with their fried rice. Its taste was very delicious, you can taste the various spices on the chicken because of its marinate. All in all it was the best inasal I’ve ever tasted so far.

After I’ve finished my meal, its for the dessert. Since my stomach was searching for something sweet, I ordered the Anniepie, a pie with caramel on its top. It got my mouth craving that’s why I immediately ordered it. Its sweetness was balanced by the salt giving it a salty sweet after taste, I even ordered a take out of it haha.

Davao for me was the cleanest place I have ever visited. The people in living there was very accomodating and the foods were made very special because they give their all to make one dish, cook with love as one might say and that’s what I search for any food.

Cebu Food Exploration| Blog#4

Cebu was the birthplace of Christianity in the Philippines. It is also where the Spanish colonizers first set foot and shared its culture to the people that reside here. Speaking of Spanish culture, there will also be Spanish foods here, and that’s why Im here on the city of Cebu, to explore the place and of course, the foods in it.

Here stands the statue of the first Filipino hero, Lapu Lapu. He is the one who defended our country against Spanish conquerers, led by Magellan in 1521.

As I was walking to my hotel and searching for something to eat, I stumbled upon this streetfood vendor that offers a delicacy they call Tuslob Buwa. I was curious on what it is and I immediately tried it, I bought one puso, it is rice, wrapped and cooked in coconut leaves. I dipped it in the tuslob buwa in then straight to my mouth, I immediately tasted liver, salty and a little bit of spice and sweetness. I asked the vendor where its made from and he said that it is made from the brain of a pig. I was shocked to know that fact but nonetheless, I love all foods, whether it is made from the brain of a animal or something. It was delicious, the rice and the tuslob buwa was a perfect pair with some softdrinks, you’re appetite will be solved.

Besides the tuslob buwa vendor was another streetfood here in cebu, and its a soup called Lansiao. Like the tuslob buwa, its ingredients is very unusual, if the tuslob is made from the brain, lansiao is made from the testicles of a cow. It may sound strange like how I reacted at it the first time but its taste is very outstanding. Its soup is like the goto of batangas, the texture of cow’s testicles was very tender, matching with the spice of the soup, its the most delicious strange food that I have eaten.

My Cebu exploration won’t be complete without eating their most famous lechon. From all the people I asked where will I find the most delicious lechon there is in Cebu. Majority of them said Rico’s Lechon and I went to find it. It is located at La Marea in Lahug. The place was full of people indicating its popularity.

Cebu for me is a place where you can be free to go anywhere, low fare on vehicles, many foods to choose and affordable too and best part was the jolly people, always smiling and very hospitable, truly a Filipino.

Bohol Exploration| Blog#3

Bohol is known for its majestic Chocolate Hills. When I first set foot in the airport, I first sought the hills because its one of my dream destination. When I reached the spot where you can see gaze at the hills, I was in awe and amazed because the colors of the hills were perfect that day, brownish-green with blue skies really complimented my eye’s appetite.

After I explored the Chocolate Hills, my eyes were filled but my stomach is really empty. So I explored the place to find foods that will satisfy my hunger. Payag restaurant is located at Tagbilaran, it is famous for its chicken inasal, when I heard this my mouth was filled with tastes and saliva ready to eat the delicious food.

I ordered there famous chicken promptly and I was so excited to eat it because of its look. Its smell attracts me, and when I first bit on it, my cravings were satisfied.

I also tried their exotic crab they call Maninipit. It was complimented by vinegar, the saltiness of the crab and the sourness of the vinegar were a great combination. Perfect for the hot day of October.

Lastly, to really satisfy the dragon in my stomach, I ordered their big halo halo. It is placed on a buko shell that adds a design that hungers the customers appetite.

I highly suggest Bohol as a summer getaway because of its climate which is not that hot, the places you can visit and the foods you can eat.

Boracay Food Exploration| Blog#2

As I was peeking through the airplane window, I got amazed immediately by the beauty of the majestic Boracay Islands in Aklan. Even from the sky you can see the white beaches and the clear blue waters of the sea, which makes me wanna jump and swim right in.

I arrived at Boracay before it was noon, the cold fresh breeze from the sea welcomed me and it relaxed my body from the long flight. There are many people walking on the beach side and on the sea swimming even if the sun was right above them. I was very hungry at the moment (well all the time) and my tummy forces me to find a restaurant to eat in.

As I was walking along the beach finding a place to eat, this rock formation caught my attention. It was a nice thing to see a natural structure like this on a very crowded place, still in a good shape. It was called the Boracay Rock or Willy’s Rock. Anyways, let’s get back to where I was going and what I was searching. Fooood.

This place was very popular among the tourists and the locals alike. Puka Grande Restaurant got its name from the puka shells you can find on the shore. In here you can order the food you want to eat and while you are waiting, you can explore other places and the costumer attendant will call you if your order is ready which is why I think this restaurant is famous. But Im so curious (also hungry) if their dishes and delicacies will pass my food rating.

When my meal has arrived, I was hyped to see all the foods that I ordered. This food is what we call sinigang na baboy, its very much like the ones that we cook in our province but it has some seafood ingredients like alamang (small shrimps) and some bangus (milk fish) which is kinda wierd for me, mixing meat with fish in a savory food. Nonetheless it was really delicious.

Next was the adobo of Boracay. Unlike the adobo that I’ve tried in Batanes, thier adobo has a lot of sauce in it which what I like in this dish. It was spicy and sweet at the same time and the pork meat was really tender, making me order another plate of it. I would say this is one of the best adobos I ever tasted besides my father’s.

I also tried their best seller which is the grilled shrimp. Its secret (its what they said) marinate is the one that makes it so delicious, I even want to eat the shrimp’s shells because the taste sticked to the whole shrimp. Its sauce was also remarkable. Overall, it was an amazing dish.

I left the Puka Restaurant with a very full belly. I can ay that Boracay isn’t just about the place, its the foods and delicacies you can enjoy in here. I’ll rate the foods and place 10/10 and my experience in that place will never be forgotten.

Batanes Food Exploration| Blog#1

Octagon-Restaurant-in-Batanes.jpg

Batanes is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in the Philippines and Ivatan cuisine is truly remarkable and very delicious. Octagon restaurant is one of the restaurants in Batanes that offer Ivatan savory and delicacies.

View-from-Octagon-Restaurants-VerandaInside you can see the rich culture of the place and here is my favourite spot where you can sit in the balcony while enjoying the cold breeze from the ocean. Perfect spot to sleep after eating lots of food but the restaurant prohibits it from its costumers. Lame.

Luniz-Adobo-Ivatan-StyleThe bestseller they offer was a savory dish they call Luniz, the Ivatan version of adobo. Its local recipes give it a different taste. From sweetness to spiciness, you can really feel it your tongue going to your esophagus. Made from the meat of wild boar, its exotic taste will surely blow you away.

VenesAnother dish that I’ve tried was Venes, it was just like our laing in Quezon but it is cooked not in leaves but in dried gabi stalks, giving it a more stronger taste I enjoyed.

images (6)The last dish they offered me was a big meal, the Ivatan Lunch Plate. It consists all its bestsellers including the Steamed Lobster which is my first time to eat. This meal really filled up my tummy. After I explored the foods of Batanes, I can really say that is really an Filipino cuisine. World-class.
